Christian Friedrich Boehringer 1817 Christian Friedrich Boehringer started a “Family” chemical business in Stutttgart Germany.
Company founder Albert Boehringer 1885 Albert Boehringer, Christian’s grandson bought his own chemical factory in Ingelheim Germany, where he manufactured tartaric acid salts used by pharmacists and dyeing works. Demand for his work surges as fizzy lemonade and baking powder became popular.
Albert made a breakthrough. He discovers that he could use bacteria to produce lactic acid in commercial quantities and became a pioneer of a large scale “biotech “ production.

Boehringer employees in 1910 The new century brought a move into pharmaceuticals first with pain relief then cardiovascular products, bile products, a narcotic analgesic and respiratory sympathomimetics.
Alberts vision as an employer deserves recognition. 1902 he introduced a staff insurance scheme. A few years later a foundation for old and infirmed workers was established.
